Your lease

Before you sign a Québec lease

Review the terms that shape your daily life, then use official TAL guidance for questions about the lease.

Read the complete agreement

The TAL lease form is mandatory for a new residential lease. Check the appropriate current form and read the full agreement, including any annexes and building rules.

  • Confirm the parties, address, unit, start and end dates, rent and payment arrangements.
  • Check that the inclusions and any agreed work are accurately recorded.
02

Resolve everyday questions before signing

Do not rely on photographs or a conversation to settle a detail that matters to you. Ask for clear written terms.

  • Confirm appliances, heating, electricity, internet, parking and storage.
  • Read the pet rules, shared-space rules and any applicable building conditions.
  • Check how keys and access devices will be handed over.
03

Use the right source for legal questions

These notes are a practical starting point. Consult the TAL for the rules that apply to your lease, especially notices, renewal or a change of plans.

  • Keep the signed lease and all attachments together.
  • Do not assume every lease follows a July 1 schedule; use your actual dates.
  • Clarify anything you do not understand before committing.
