Your budget

Compare the cost of living there

Two apartments with the same advertised rent can have very different monthly costs.

Start with the exact apartment

A building’s advertised starting price is a useful reference, but it is not a quote for every unit. Ask for the rent and availability of the apartment you would actually lease.

  • Confirm the unit number, lease term, move-in date and monthly rent.
  • For an offer or promotion, ask how long it applies and what the ongoing cost becomes.
02

Put inclusions beside the price

Use the same comparison for every apartment. Ask for anything uncertain to be clarified in writing.

  • Rent + electricity/heating + internet + parking/storage + any separate recurring property costs.
  • Confirm appliances, laundry and whether listed amenities are included.
  • Keep moving, furniture and installation expenses separate from your monthly budget.
03

Understand payment requests

TAL guidance explains that a lessor cannot demand an extra security or key deposit. Check any payment request against the official guidance before paying.

  • Confirm the authorized recipient and retain proof of payment.
  • Our rental-search and visit-arranging service is free to renters; your rent and property costs remain separate.
